“The only miracle in all four Gospels is Christ feeding the large crowd that
heard Him preach,” says Art Bennett, President and CEO of Catholic Charities Diocese
of Arlington. “One of the ways that we
spread the Gospel of His love is to allow people to be the hands who gather and
help feed those who cannot predictably put a good meal on the table and allow
them to have a healthy meal.”
Here’s
how the program works
The “Children Feeding Children” program started for the
Vacation Bible Schools last year within the Diocese. There are 2 options in which the churches can participate:
1) The children get a blue bag
with a list of food items to purchase. They fill the bag and bring the
bag back, or…
2) They have an event during
which they pack breakfast and lunch items in a plastic bag to give to children
at pantries.
Once the activities are completed, the food is brought to
the Manassas warehouse of the St. Lucy Project. From there, the food is
distributed to various pantries throughout the 21 counties and 7 independent cities
of the Diocese of Arlington as needed.
